Four main categories of mechanical refrigeration

As the examples above are used mechanical cooling system to move the heat. Ice or chemicals may also be used, but in all of this program, we will limit our discussion of mechanical refrigeration systems. Mechanical refrigeration applications can be divided into four main categories, depending on temperature and usage.

Although this program emphasizes comfort air conditioning, we will briefly consider all four applications.

Comfort Air Conditioning

Although we focus on cooling, air conditioning term means much more than that. Full air-conditioning is carried out by using a system that will heat, moisture, cool, drainage, ventilation, filtration and air circulation. It is obvious that most of the systems we call air conditioning to do some work and technically not a General air-conditioning systems.

As we study refrigeration systems, we will focus mainly on the cooling function. In areas of the occupied people, the comfort of air conditioning, refrigeration uses to cool and dehumidify the air in order to provide a "comfortable" conditions.

The temperature-humidity regime perceived as a "comfortable" in the Industry is 68 78F (75F as typical goals), and from 20% to 60% relative humidity (50% as the target).

Refrigeration refers to the process of mechanical refrigeration cooling and freezing of food products. It also includes the production of ice for commercial use, for example, ice rinks and ice storage. Grocery stores active use of mechanical refrigeration. There we see, refrigerators for milk products, meat products and set at about 35 45F and the freezer at -20 to +30F. Household refrigerators and freezers are smaller versions of systems found in grocery stores. Many of the basic concepts in this program, will apply to these types of equipment.

While the comfort of the people as its object, process air conditioning is his object. The process of work aims to make the state of the air as necessary to make the production process more efficient. Applications are in the production of textiles, printing, electronics and pharmaceuticals, where the exact temperature, air quality and other conditions are critical. The textile industry, for example, requires atmosphere with a relatively high moisture content, with multicolor printing constant temperature and humidity.

Low temperature operation o rdeep refrigeration, as it is sometimes called, uses a mechanical refrigeration unit for cooling and freezing of various materials for industrial and medical purposes. The temperature is usually below 0F and sometimes even go below the -300F. Examples of its use include cryogenic technology (the study of low temperatures), environmental testing, space simulators, metallurgical and gas liquification.
