The Cooling Process

Absorption cooling is widely used recreational vehicles and residential applications where power consumption is important. Absorption system is unique in refrigeration, because it contains no moving parts, and virtually silent. Typical of the block is shown in Fig. 17-6. Continuous absorption types of refrigerators four mothers sections. They generator (boiler), as shown; the condenser, D; evaporator, E; and absorber, J.. Four sections are connected by steel pipes. The entire system is welded together. The heat required for the generation is used on the generator (boiler). Heat can be provided by either a gas burner or an electric heating element.

System charged with ammonia, water and hydrogen. This combined solution under pressure, allowing ammonia condensing at ambient temperature. When the device starts up, some of ammonia in a saturated solution of water in the tank. Heat is applied to the boiler, the temperature increase of the solution to 350F (1770. Some ammonia rises through the steam pump. The liquid falls back through the boiler and liquid heat exchanger.

It then flows back to the ship, as a weak solution, through the absorber. At the outlet of a steam pump, ammonia vapour is about 300F (149C). Ammonia gas is mixed with steam and water condenses out of the solution in the rectifier,

Pure ammonia vapour enters via a capacitor, D, at room temperature. After the ammonia is condensed liquid gets in a precooler, and As a liquid ammonia vaporizer, E, the solution starts to evaporate in hydrogen. This cools the freezer, so that between 24F 0 andF .

Hydrogen-ammonia mixture then falling back through the return pipeline. He enters the tank to start a new cycle.

Mote whole cycle is carried out entirely by the gravitational flow of the refrigerant. It is important that the device remain in a horizontal, vertical position. The heat released in the absorber must be removed. Heat is taken through the condenser must be attracted by the surrounding atmosphere.
