Large heat pumps for heating and cooling

Many large heat pumps with electrical drive is running around the world today, and even more ordered and future plans. Large heat pumps are defined as equipment with a capacity of about 500 kW and more. These are particularly used for heating and cooling.

The point is often made that the heat pump is competitive and well established markets, where cooling is required, too. These markets are:

Simultaneous production of heat and cold (dual-use), such as in later HVAC applications or in the classic commercial cases of the ice rink plus pool or cooling plus hot water production;

Consistent production of heat and cold in HVAC plants, with the same hardware, known as heating/cooling heat pump (air cooling and dehumidification in the summer and heating, and, perhaps, hydration during the winter season).

In large heat pumps for heating and cooling use, is well suited:

To cover the base load in systems without combined heat and power (CHP),
"For the low load, low temperatures in the summer for the production of domestic hot water,
Where food and/or return temperatures are low
Where water is available as a source of heat, such as treated wastewater, water, industrial wastewater, lake or sea water. (There are also plants with a thermal capacity of up to 2.5 MW using atmospheric air as a heat source.)
