Refrigerating Systems. Air cooled condensers

Air-cooled condensers find use in domestic, commercial and industrial refrigeration, cooling and air conditioning systems, with a total capacity of 120 tons (Fig. 3.18). Centrifugal fan with air-cooled condensers (capacity 3-100 tons) in particular are used for heat recovery and ventilation applications. In fact, they use outside air as a cooling medium. Fans draw air for refrigerant coil and latent heat the refrigerant is removed as sensible heat from the air stream. Advantages of air-cooled condensers:

No water needs,
Standard outdoor installation
Troubleshooting freezing, scaling and corrosion
The elimination of pipelines of water, circulation pumps, water treatment,
Low cost installation and
Low content and quality of service requirements.

On the other hand, they have some disadvantages, as follows:

High condensing temperatures,
High refrigerant costs due to long piping runs,
High power requirements per kW of cooling,
High intensity noise and
Numerous units required for large systems.
