Liquid Line Filter-Drier
It is common practice to set the filter-drier in the liquid line. This tank as an accessory retains moisture, dirt, metal and chips from the input refrigerant flow control. Drying element filter removes moisture. This moisture otherwise freeze refrigerant flow control. Humidity also harm, mingled with oil in the system, since it forms sludges and acids. Moisture is particularly harmful for sealed units. A liquid line filter-dehydrator is shown in Fig. 4-16.
Some filters-driers are equipped with a sight glass, which will indicate the level of the refrigerant. Many of the sight glass, chemical, which will change the color. Color change indicates that the system has moisture in it.
