Technical information Refrigeration The Compressor

Compressor

The compressor is a mechanical device that increases the pressure from the low to the high side of the refrigeration system. He accepts low pressure and low temperature of superheated gas from the evaporator and compresses it into the conditions of high temperatures and pressure superheated gas.

This hand pump shows a simple way that the compressor works on the gas-refrigerant. In the top view, piston and cylinder contains a large amount of low temperature (50F), low pressure (69 PSIG) R-22 gas. Gas is overheating, as saturation temperature 69 40 PSIGF. find overheating, subtraction saturation temperature from the actual temperature (SH = AT - ST). These conditions are typical for gas in the comfort of air-conditioning system at the compressor inlet coming from the evaporator.

In the bottom view, the piston was forced into action compresses the gas in very small space. Pressure increased up to 263 PSIG causing a rise in temperature to 165F.

refrigerant now high temperature, high pressure superheated gas. In superheated gas is still, because the saturation temperature at 263 120 PSIGF. This compressed condition is typical for gas as it leaves the compressor and a condenser.

Heat compression adds about 22 % and 30% of heat absorbed by the evaporator.

Compress the refrigerant, requires constant input of energy by the electric engine or other source that generates heat, which is added to the gas. This is called the heat of compression. As we mentioned in the condenser discussion, this heat, plus the heat absorbed by the evaporator should be removed from the refrigerant in the condenser. Heat compression typically adds about 22% to 30% of heat absorbed by the evaporator...
