Soldering Equipment

A refrigeration technician uses soldering for many jobs. Air-acetylene torch finishing pure flame at a temperature of 2500F (1400C). Using compressed air, flame temperature is about 2500F to 2800F (1400C to 1500C). Acetylene supplied in bottles of 10 ft3 or 40 ft3 capacity for portable welding.

For detailed instructions on how to build and use acetylene-air soldering equipment in Chapter 2. Fig. 15-12 shows a basic refrigeration and air conditioning kit. It provides the necessary tools for soldering, cutting and leak detection.

It is important to observe the following precautions:

  • The pressure of acetylene should never be older than 15 psi 207 kPa). High blood pressure can cause an explosion, because acetylene is not stable at high pressures.
  • Always use the container in an upright position. He has a porous filler, which acetylene, dissolved. If the cylinder lying while in use, some acetone may arise. Acetone causes dirty flame and may lubricating to the regulator and valves.
  • Air fuel torches that use propane or other high-temperature fuel are also used.

They are light and work in any position. Propane fuel useful down 10F (-23C).

For security, keep the flame away from combustible material. Such substances are, for example, oil, wood, paper, paints, cleaning fluid and methyl chloride. It also includes drums or containers may contain flammable materials at one time. The use of sheet metal or the Council for the protection of surfaces, e.g. in the construction of the pipelines along the walls. This will avoid discoloration in the heat when using a torch.

Always light torch with flint lighters. With a match or lighter places his hand too close to the flame...
