This refrigerant pond, called the receiver is in units using TEX (thermal expansion valve. When the heat load demand decreases, valve regulates the flow of refrigerant. The excess charge is stored in the receiver until the load. In some new departments, engineers have developed some of the condenser coils bit more than you need to act as a storage area for the excess refrigerant. In most light commercial refrigeration systems, along with heat pumps, the receiver is commonly seen. Fig. 12-1 shows a typical receiver. This component is installed in the liquid line close to the condenser coil.
