Water-cooled condensers

The shell and tube water-cooled condenser refrigerant vapour cools then condensed in the shell of the device, through the cooling water flowing through the tube (see Fig. 24). Water-cooled condensers are often used in combination with cooling towers or free cooling water of appropriate quality in certain circumstances, when available.

Plate heat exchangers are also used as a water-cooled condensers. Capacitors, that use water from wells, sea, or river operate from low condensing pressure, and thus the most effective. When the use of water from the cooling tower, the level of energy efficiency is comparable with the evaporative condenser, use the surrounding wet bulb temperature as a means of cooling. Cooling water must be treated to prevent the formation of bacteria Legionella.
