Ice Cooling

Over the years, the ice of frozen water) was the only refrigerating means available. It is still used in many cooling applications. Typical ice refrigerator, Fig. 3-1, isolated room is equipped with a tray or a tank top for holding units or pieces of ice (aqua). Shelves for food are located beneath the ice compartment. Cold air (green striped arrow) and flows down from the ice compartment. It cools the food on the shelves below. Air is heated and rises from the bottom of the enclosure (red striped arrow). He goes up along the sides and rear of the Cabinet. Flowing over ice, it cools and flows down again on the shelves.

Ice cooling has the advantage of maintaining the interior of the Cabinet at a sufficiently high humidity (humidity level). Food stored in this type of refrigerator does not dry quickly. Until the development of the mechanical refrigerator, natural ice cooling was quite widely used. Since then, artificial ice was made for cooling. The temperature inside the refrigerator ice controlled air flow. Air flows through ice and through the Cabinet. Temperatures usually range from 40F and M (4.4CC and 10C),

When to use ice for cooling temperatures below 32F (0 C), ice and salt mixtures can be used. Temperatures ((-1 C) can be obtained with ice and salt mixtures.
