Moisture and Refrigerants

Moisture should be saved in cooling system because it can corrode parts of the system. At low temperatures, produced water or moisture freezes. If freezing the metering device, the refrigerant flow is restricted or cut off. The system will be of low efficiency or none at all. The degree of effectiveness will depend on the number of icing or some of the victims from the frozen moisture.

All refrigerants will absorb the water to a certain extent. Those that consume very little water, resolution of free water for the collection and freezes at low temperature points. Those who consume large amounts of moisture form of aggressive acids and corrosion of the system. Some systems allow the water is absorbed and frozen. This leads to corrosion.

Hydrolysis reaction of the material, such as Freon-12 or methyl chloride, and water. Acid materials are formed. Hydrolysis of the speed for the connection Freon as a group is small compared to other halo-genated connections.

In Freon group, however, there are significant differences. Temperature, pressure and presence of other materials also strongly influence the course.

With one water at atmospheric pressure, speed too low to be determined by the analytical method. When catalyzed by the presence of steel, hydrolysis rates can be detected, but still quite low. At saturation pressures and high temperatures, the rates even more.

Under neutral or acidic conditions, the presence of hydrogen molecule little impact on hydrolytic stability. However, in alkaline conditions compounds containing hydrogen, such as Freon-22, CFC-21, as a rule, hydrolyzed faster...
