Carbon Dioxide Refrigerants

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a colorless gas at normal temperatures. He has a slight smell and taste of acid. Carbon dioxide nonexplosive and nonflammable. It has a boiling point 5F (15C). Apressure more than 300 psi is required to keep it from evaporating. Gas liquefaction capacitor temperature 80F (26.6C) and pressure of approximately 1000 psi needed. Its critical temperature 87.8F (31C). It is harmless to breathe, except in very high concentrations. Lack of oxygen can lead to suffocation under certain conditions, the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

Carbon dioxide is used on Board ships and in industrial plants. It is not used in everyday life. The main advantage of the use of carbon dioxide for the refrigerant, a small, compressor can be used. The compressor is very low, as high pressure refrigerant. Carbon dioxide, however, very inefficient compared with other refrigerants. Thus, it is not used in households.
