Technical information Refrigerants CARBON DIOXIDE

CARBON DIOXIDE

Carbon dioxide technology is currently the most innovative in the field of refrigeration. CO2 is not a new technology, but it is widely used in RAC sector for a long time, because it's easier and lower cost of competing technologies. However, with the increased movement to reduce the use of HFCs and search for non-flammable, non-toxic refrigerants, CO2 has become an interesting alternative with zero ODP and low GWP. Two main problems are the high system pressure at normal operating temperature and the low energy efficiency (COP) to the standard refrigerating cycle.

It is possible to design new equipment to make it suitable for high pressure and more and more manufacturers of components and systems for CO2 on creation of a wide range of applications.

CO2 is introduced in a variety of applications as a separate stage of a "supercritical" refrigerant, part of the second stage with a refrigerant and as a secondary fluids in indirect systems with different refrigerant in the compression cycle.

Call and what will determine future market share CO2 is determining what price it will be possible to achieve competitive energy efficiency in the field.

Particularly CO2 and the need to develop a system tailored to local conditions, to achieve competitive COP will be (even more than for traditional technologies) should assess solutions application. Discussion continues, if supercritical CO2 system will be energy efficient in warm climate.

Special training is required to design, build and maintain systems for CO2 and high pressures. This includes not only communicating with high pressures, but also the technical know-how to make the system efficient...
