Capillary tube

Small-bore capillary tube is used as the measuring device. It is used everything from household refrigerator for a heat pump. Essentially, this is a carefully measured the length of a very small diameter tube. This creates a predetermined pressure drop in the system. Capillary has no moving parts.

Because of the capillary tube cannot stop the flow of the refrigerant, when the condensing unit stops, such a refrigeration unit will always equalize the high side and low side pressure on the outside of the cycle. For this reason, it is important that the refrigerant be of such size that it can be done on the low side of the system without damage of the compressor. Battery, or larger chamber, often come with capillary tube systems to prevent slugs liquid refrigerant from being transported to the suction line.
