Pressure Relief Valves
Safety valves safety devices intended to relieve excess pressure in the system, which is the result of the violation. In the majority of refrigeration systems, at least one pressure relief valve or a fusible plug installed in his receiving tank or water-cooled condenser. In many applications, additional safety valves is required in other points of the system. The exact number, location and the type of pressure relief devices required are set out in the American Standard Code of Safety for Mechanical Cooling and depend on the type and size of the system. Since the local rules are subject to change, they should always be considered when designing the installation.
A fusible plug is also used to reset the pressure relief device. These components consist of the pipe connector, lias been drilled and filled with molten metal alloy. The alloy is designed so that it melts at a temperature corresponding to the maximum desired pressure. This melting temperature is a function of the ratio between the pressure and temperature of the refrigerant employed in the system.
