Hot Gas Defrost System

In the system of hot gas, hot refrigerant vapor is pumped directly through the evaporator coil. The system has refrigerant line directly from the compressor discharge line to the evaporator. This line is sometimes linked thermostatic expansion valve or capillary tube and the evaporator. The line is opened and closed by a solenoid shut-off valve.

At a predetermined time, usually when the system is not used, the timer is closed. The compressor starts, opens the solenoid valve, and stops the evaporator fan motors. Hot compressed steam rushes through the evaporator and warms it. It then returns to the compressor along the suction line.

Such systems tend to defrost the evaporator from 5 to 10 minutes. Defrost water should be kept from freezing in the drain pan and tube. Thus, part of the hot gas defrost line can be Installed in a pan and drain pipe. Otherwise, a small electric heater can be installed in such a place.

Refrigerant is condensed during the defrost cycle should be evaporated. The following explains how this is done;

  1. Defrosting bypassing puts some of the hot gas in the suction line to vaporize any liquid refrigerant.

    Some of the hot gas bypass systems also uses a system of liquid injection. The TEV is installed on the line between the liquid line and suction line. His sensitive lamp is installed in the suction line. If the gas is returned to the compressor, it becomes warm, tyres TEV will be opened. The liquid refrigerant will be mixed with hot gas bypass. The mixture is stored in 45F (7C) 65F (18C). This ensures that the compressor is cooled. Solenoid valve in the bypass TEV input disables TEV, when the system is operating normally or at full load.
  2. Heat is applied to vaporize the return of the refrigerant. Electric heating is used in some cases.
  3. Special evaporator fan can be installed in connection with the suction line. This, plus the air force over the re-evaporator, only allows a couple to return to the compressor.   4. Sometimes hot gas flows back to the evaporator. Then condensed refrigerant bypasses TEV through the check valve. It causes fluid to the receiver through liquid line.
