Sight glasses

Sight glasses may be used to indicate whether the presence of gas in the pipe, which should be in the hands of only liquid. Main use in refrigeration equipment in the liquid line from the receiver of the expansion valve. Close to the expansion valve better observation here can detect the presence of liquid through the valve, and, being a downstream filter-drier, it can be used to indicate the need to replace the filter. If equipment works properly only liquid will be present and any visible bubbles of gas would mean lack of refrigerant.

Sight glasses for halocarbons, typically made out of brass, and should be soldered joints, Fig. 9.11. For ammonia, they are made of steel or cast iron.

Since the interior of the system can be seen at this moment, the advantage is customary in most types insert sensitive to moisture chemical that will indicate an excess of water by changing colour. When this specification can be seen, Hairdryer needs changing or recharging, and colors should then return to the 'dry' shadows.....
