Technical information The refrigeration cycle Specific Heat

Specific Heat

Each substance has the characteristic called specific heat. This is a measure of change of temperature of a substance at a given amount of heat is applied to it.

One Btu (British thermal unit) number heat required to raise the temperature of 1 kg of water by 1 in 39С” F., With some exceptions, such as ammonia gas and helium, all substances that require less heat per pound than water to raise the temperature of 1F.

Thus, the specific heat of the scale is based on water, which has a specific heat 1.0. The heat capacity of aluminium to 0.2. This means that on 0,2 BTU will raise the temperature of 1 kg of aluminium on 1F. One BTU will raise the temperature of 5-pound aluminum on 1F, or 1 pound on 5F.
