Freon Reactions on Metal

The most commonly used construction of metals, such as steel, cast iron, brass, copper, tin, lead, aluminum, can be used satisfactorily with Freon connection under normal conditions of use. Magnesium and aluminum alloys containing more than 2% magnesium, is not recommended for use in systems containing Freon connections, where water may be present. Zinc is not recommended for use with Freon 113. Experience zinc and other compounds Freon is limited and any unusual reactivity was observed.

Most halocarbons may react vigorously with highly chemically active substances, such as sodium, potassium, barium in free metallic form.
